"The Division" is a *new* Lifetime TV show focusing on the lives of five very different female police officers in San Francisco. All strongly devoted to their jobs. All with a story to tell. All hitting the bar at the end of the day....
Name: Jinny Exstead
Played by: Nancy McKeon
Age: 32
Occupation: Policewoman
Ambition: "In the words of Cyndi Lauper: Girls just want to have fun. What's the point
of planning for the future?
I want the most out of today!"
Motive: Jinny became a cop because it's the family line of work.
The only girl in her clan, she enjoys proving that policing is not just a man's job.
In a word: Wild child
Fun fact: Jinny is a black belt in karate.
Jinny, a tomboy of sorts, is the daughter of a policeman and
has three cop brothers. Police work is in her blood, and she
enjoys the rush and challenges of the profession. However, she
can be impulsive and self-assured to a fault — and her partying
ways don't always help her job performance.
In her personal life, Jinny is battling some pretty formidable
demons: She is dealing with her psychic pain by drinking too
much and sleeping around with strangers. She is, by nature,
friendly and fun-loving, a loyal friend.
Name: Candace (C.D.) De Lorenzo
Played by: Tracey Needham
Age: 32
Occupation: Policewoman
Ambition: "To be the best darn cop that ever walked the streets."
Motive: C.D. is a woman who likes the idea of being in power.
In a word: Overachiever
Fun fact: C.D., a workaholic, has decided to never have children.
C.D. is a consummate career woman who is keenly focused on
her professional responsibilities and her ambition. She is a
tough chick who is direct and to the point, and unafraid of
putting people in their places. A 10-year veteran of the force,
she is very confident in her way of doing things, sometimes to
a fault. She can be unyielding, inflexible and prickly, although
once she's on your side, she is a loyal, trustworthy friend.
As together as C.D. appears in the workplace, her personal life
is a shambles. Her seemingly perfect marriage is actually a
hard, rocky ride since her husband is a chronic philanderer.
Name: Kate McCafferty
Played by: Bonnie Bedelia
Age: Late 40s
Occupation: Precinct captain
Ambition: "To prove that women can do anything men can do — just as well,
if not better. To be the best captain on the San Francisco police force."
Motive: Kate has survived the days when women weren't welcome
on the force, and has come out swinging. She wants to — and does — come across
as competent and confident every step of the way, and has
earned the respect of her underlings and superiors alike.
In a word: Role model
Fun fact: Kate considers herself a feminist.
Kate is the rock of the Division. She is a solid leader, a
precinct chief respected by both the detectives who work for
her and the City Hall politicians who oversee her. She is
competent but not overbearing; tough but fair; whip-smart but
down-to-earth; brutally honest but also compassionate. She
inspires those around her to be and do their best.
Kate is divorced and the mother of a college-age daughter,
Amanda. Mother and daughter have a rocky relationship: Kate
worries about what she perceives as Amanda's lack of
ambition; Amanda resents Kate's stifling desire for the apple to
not fall far from her tree. Kate is gun-shy when it comes to
romantic relationships, but her hush-hush affair with an
assistant district attorney who's younger than her is definitely a
source of pleasure and solace.
Name: Magdalena (Magda) Ramirez
Played by: Lisa Vidal
Age: 32
Occupation: Policewoman
Ambition: "To be a good cop and make a difference. To
save people. To provide my son, Ben, with a good future
and a good education."
Motive: Magda, one of seven children from a Puerto Rican family,
became a cop to make the world a better place. Her family doubted that she
had what it takes to graduate from the police academy — but she proved them wrong.
In a word: Down-to-earth
Fun fact: Magda is an avid singer, who belts out tunes while getting
dressed in the mornings.
Magda is a single mother whose number one priority is her
son, Ben. She is a family-oriented type of gal. She feels guilty
being away from her kid, but she truly loves her work. It clears
her mind of all her issues. Being a cop also plays to her natural
strengths: getting along with others, solving problems, making
people happy and fixing things.
When it comes to her personal life, Magda has abandonment
and mistrust issues with men. She calls her son's father a
"magician"; he disappeared the moment she told him she was
pregnant. She is sensitive, honest, a listener — an all-around
good friend.
Name: Angela Reide
Occupation: Policewoman
Played by: Lela Rochon Fuqua
Ambition: "To become the first woman police
commissioner in the city and be elected to political office."
Motive: Having grown up as an army brat, Angela was
groomed for this line of work.
In a word: Straight-arrow
Fast fact: Angela learned to shoot a gun before she learned to
ride a bike.
Angela is an upright type of gal; she holds her head high. She
is strong and ambitious but has a sensitive soul and a heart of
gold. Angela has a keen sense of what's morally right. She was
bred for police work; an army brat who grew up under the
tutelage of her brigadier general father, she learned the values
of discipline, honor, respect and hard work. She is an idealist
who sometimes rubs people the wrong way because of her
unrelenting discipline and attention to detail.
Of all the Division women, Angela has the most harmonious
personal life. She is happily married to her high school
sweetheart, a doctor in an emergency clinic. The couple's only
point of contention is that Hubby wants kids and Angela is
hesitant.
Name: Peter Torianno
Occupation: Policeman
Played by: David Gianopoulos
Ambition: To get involved with Magda
Motive: Motive for murder..Unknown
In a word: Goofy
Fast fact: Peter's wife does drugs.
Peter is a hard working policeman. He is very protective of his partner Magda Ramirez
On and off of the job.
Whether she wants him to be or not...
